Baldock Town Letchworth began their preparations for the new campaign with a well contested match at Ridgeons League Premier Division side Haverhill Rovers.
There were a number of new faces on show for Town. Former Biggleswade Town defender Neil Morgan slotted in at centre-half and Paul Regan came in at left back. Rob Beckwith, Jack Gregson, Shane Willett and Rhys Davies all returned to the club after spells elsewhere.
In the end it was single goal coming in the first half that decided the match. A corner from the right was met unchallenged by the impressive home number 8 to net past Farmer from close range.
Baldock had some excellent chances of their own, particularly in the second half. First, Harry Holland got in behind the home defence, but his effort was well saved by the keeper, then Morgan was unfortunate not to score when he headed a Sam Crow cross goalwards, but the keeper parried well and then denied Craig Skelton from point blank range from the rebound.
Jack Gregson hit the cross bar late on, but Town were unable to find a way through.
This was a good workout for Baldock and Manager Steve King will be encouraged ahead of other friendly matches to come.
